Ex-Indiana basketball player OG Anunoby has fan in Anne Hathaway ... and a big game
Anne Hathaway joined The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday and talked about her Knicks fandom.
"I'm very chill, I'm very loving and calm, but like I'm also the type of fan that considered wearing an OG (Anunoby) jersey out here today," Hathaway told Fallon on the show. "I'm trying to be like a gentle, loving, motherly figure fan," she added with laughter.
Moments later, Fallon cut to a viral moment from the previous NBA season with Hathaway and OG Anunoby , a former Indiana basketball player. During a Knicks home game at Madison Square Garden, Anunoby was looking to defend a crosscourt Josh Giddey pass, until he ended up in the front row with Hathaway. Despite the chaos, Hathaway joked about her laser-focus on the ball making its way towards her family.
"I missed the whole (thing), I was so excited about the ball. I never imagined something even better was going to happen," Hathaway said.
The instance made national news, and as Fallon described, ignited the Knicks' season. Hathaway has been a dedicated Knicks' fan since the 90's, and now more recently, a fan of Anunoby.
Anunoby had 29 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 on 3s, for 29 points and 4 steals in the 140-89 win over the Hawks to clinch the series after Hathaway's comments.
The former Indiana Hoosiers' forward has become a staple in New York 's frontcourt and is a key piece to this year's playoff team. In the first round of this year's playoffs against Atlanta , Anunoby averaged 21.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.
