The Atlanta Falcons are signing former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Chris Williams to a one-year, $2 million contract in NFL free agency, according to a report from ESPN insider Adam Schefter. Williams will help the team replace veteran David Onyemata , who signed with the New York Jets on Day 1 of free agency.
A former undrafted free agent, Williams has appeared in 44 games, recording 43 tackles (26 solo), 10 QB hits and four sacks. The 27-year-old spent his first two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts , playing in just 13 games as a rotational defensive lineman.
"Former Bears DL Chris Williams reached agreement today on a one-year, $2 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons , per his agents Alan Herman and Jamie Mullen," Schefter reported on Wednesday.
In 2024, Williams signed with the Bears and recorded a career-high three sacks. He spent the last two years in Chicago, appearing in 31 games. Last season, he recorded 14 tackles (six solo), and one sack. Williams is a solid depth addition for a Falcons team that is short on cap space.
