The Atlanta Falcons wasted no time fixing a hole in their defensive line. The team signed Zach Harrison and Jammie Robinson to the practice squad on Tuesday according to Sports Illustrated . This move comes right after the Falcons released Cam Sample and Cobee Bryant from that same group. It is a quick pivot that shows the front office wants bodies ready to go.
Harrison's return is the most interesting part of this shuffle. He was waived just days ago during the final roster cuts. Since he cleared waivers, Atlanta brought him back without needing an active spot. That is a smart way to keep talent close without burning a valuable roster number.

Harrison proved he can make plays when he was on the field last season. He appeared in seven games and recorded 22 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. He also forced two fumbles before a knee injury cut his year short. Those numbers show he has the raw tools to rush the passer.
The team needs that kind of familiarity right now. They are building a group that knows the system and can step in if a starter gets hurt. This is not about flashy names; it is about reliability.
Trading for a New Face
While Harrison returns, the Falcons also brought in a new player from Chicago . The team sent cornerback Clark Phillips III and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Bears for Gervon Dexter Sr. This trade gives Atlanta another body in the trenches. Dexter is coming off a 2025 season where he recorded 44 tackles and six sacks. Those stats show he can disrupt the backfield. The Falcons assigned him the number 95 on the defensive line per Falcons Wire . He joins a group that is trying to get better at stopping the run and rushing the quarterback. The cost was a future pick and a young corner, but the need for size up front was clear.

The roster moves happen fast after the 53-man roster deadline passed. The team is still figuring out the best mix of players. Zach Harrison is listed on the Defensive Line group for the 53-man roster in some reports, even though he signed to the practice squad. This confusion shows how fluid the situation is. The Falcons want to keep Harrison ready to play if they need him. Dexter is the one who might start. The coaching staff has to blend these new pieces with what they already have. It is a busy week for the front office.
The Falcons are betting on depth to carry them through a long season. Injuries happen, and having Harrison on the practice squad gives the team options. Harrison's knee injury is a concern, but his production before that injury was solid. He has the speed to chase down quarterbacks. Gervon Dexter brings size and a track record of making plays. The trade for him shows the team is willing to spend future assets to fix the present. They gave up a fifth-round pick and a corner to get a defensive tackle who can start.
This roster shuffle is about survival in a tough division. The Falcons cannot afford to have thin depth on the defensive line. Every game matters, and every player needs to be ready. The addition of these three players shows the team is not sitting still. They are looking for every edge they can get. The fans in Atlanta will watch closely to see how these new faces perform. If Harrison stays healthy and Dexter makes an impact, this trade and these signings could pay off big.
