In a 95-80 preseason loss to the Dallas Wings on Thursday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana Fever saw star guard Caitlin Clark go down with an injury.

Clark exited in the third quarter following contact on a three-point attempt when Allana Smith was called for a Flagrant 1 foul for infringing on her landing space.

The 24-year-old appeared to land awkwardly and was seen limping before remaining in the game to shoot three free throws, converting two of them. She was then substituted out for rookie Raven Johnson and did not return. Nevertheless, Clark avoided a locker room visit and was evaluated on the bench.

Speaking to reporters postgame, Clark shared an update on her injury, explaining that she took a hard fall on her kneecap but reassured everyone, saying, “I feel good.”

Clark finished with 21 points in 16 minutes, shooting 4-of-6 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range, and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line, along with four assists, two rebounds, one steal, and three turnovers. She scored 14 points in the first quarter alone, accounting for more than half of her team’s early offense.

The game highlighted broader issues for the Indiana, particularly defensively. Dallas scored 36 points in the second quarter, with Paige Bueckers contributing 20 points in 20 minutes. The Fever also lost the rebounding battle 33-21, a gap influenced by the absence of Aliyah Boston and Lexie Hull , both held out as part of a cautious preseason approach.

Clark’s health is still something to watch closely, especially after injuries last season limited her to just 13 games, including a quad strain and a season-ending groin injury. Although she told reporters earlier this month she had fully recovered from those issues, her status for the Indiana’s final preseason game against the Nigerian national team is uncertain.

The Fever open the regular season May 9 against the Wings.
