Florida basketball center Micah Handlogten will enter transfer portal
Florida 's towering senior center Micah Handlogten will enter the transfer portal when it opens at midnight on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
The 7-foot-1-inch backup averaged 14.8 minutes over 34 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign, putting up 4.1 points and grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game; he also tallied 30 blocks. Handlogten was a key member of Todd Golden's rotation, backing up Defensive Player of the Year Rueben Chinyelu at the 5 position.
The frontcourt reserve earned the Lt. Fred Koss Award this year , which recognizes those whose contributions embody the ideals of selfless courage and conviction in the program's pursuit of success.
Handlogten will need a little bit of help walking through that portal, as his future eligibility currently hangs in limbo. He was originally slated to miss the entire 2024-25 season after suffering a gruesome leg fracture in the 2024 SEC Tournament, only to shed his medical redshirt to help the Orange and Blue win its third national championship.
Now with four years of eligibility expired, he is hoping the NCAA will have mercy on his plight.
Handlogten previously said that he is "very optimistic about" getting that additional year. Todd Golden has also been firmly on his side in the crusade for more time.
"We're still fighting for Micah to get a year back, but we will honor him tomorrow in case we're not successful that way and I've said it a lot: I feel like he deserves the label as one of the most unselfish Gator athletes to ever play on this campus, especially in the basketball program," Golden said after Senior Night.
Handlogten marks the second Gator to enter the transfer portal after fellow 7-foot-plus center Olivier Rioux opted to leave last week.
