The Philadelphia Flyers have officially loaned Alex Bump to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL) to make room for the recently signed Michael Bunting on the NHL roster.
Bump, 22, made the Flyers roster out of training camp ahead of the 2026-27 season. It was the first time he's made an NHL roster at the start of the year.
The young Flyers forward was called up following the trade of Bobby Brink at the trade deadline. In the 17 regular season games he got, Bump scored 5 goals and 9 total points. He tacked on 2 goals in 6 playoff games as well.
You could see the struggles for Bump in training camp. He could have made the Flyers roster based on what he did last season rather than training camp.
It has been a struggle at the beginning of the season for Bump. He just has not looked like the same impactful player he was last season.
Bump had played in 3 games this season, not registering a point and having little impact, compared to what he's proven he's capable of. The forward was a healthy scratch against the Lightning.
Now, he'll get a chance for a reset down in the AHL, with the goal of getting back to the NHL as quickly as possible.
Bump was not the only option, however. Carl Grundstrom cleared waivers during camp, and is eligible to be sent right to the Phantoms. Garrett Wilson also remains on the NHL roster, and could have been an option as well.
Instead, the Flyers chose to loan Alex Bump to the Phantoms.
