Porter Martone has been even better than the Philadelphia Flyers thought he would be when they drafted him sixth overall in 2025. The former OHLer bolted the Canadian Junior ranks to join Michigan State University this season. Then, when the school’s run to the Frozen Four ended, he signed his entry-level deal to start making an immediate impact for the Flyers. After scoring in Game 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins , Martone scored another in Game 2 to give Philadelphia a surprising 2-0 series lead before heading back home.
Martone has been impressive both on and off the ice since making his debut with the Flyers. The 19-year-old power forward has fit in seamlessly, which is a bit easier when you’re bigger than most of the players on the ice, regardless of age. Flyers fans are known to fall in love with their power forwards, and Martone was always a player who seemed like a perfect fit to wear orange and black.
The Flyers are now up two games on their in-state rival, with home-ice advantage completely in their favor. The surprising trip to the postseason will have the hockey-mad fans of Philadelphia ready to sweep the hated Penguins. If Martone makes an impact in his home playoff debut, the legend will only grow.
The power forward is already over a point per game in his NHL career, recording 10 points in his nine regular season games. With two goals in his first two playoff games, Porter Martone is quickly becoming one of the league’s hottest players before his rookie season even officially begins.
