Nearly five years after the tragic car crash that ended his NFL career and claimed the life of a young woman, former Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs has been denied parole.

The former Crimson Tide standout and first-round NFL Draft pick has been serving a prison sentence stemming from a fatal crash that occurred in Las Vegas on Nov. 2, 2021.
Authorities said Ruggs was driving his Chevrolet Corvette at speeds reaching 156 miles per hour when he collided with another vehicle. The crash killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog, Max. Prosecutors later revealed that Ruggs' blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.16 percent, twice Nevada's legal limit, within the required testing window after the accident.
The incident shocked both the NFL and Alabama football communities.
Ruggs had been one of the league's rising young stars at the time, coming off a standout collegiate career with the Crimson Tide before being selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders .

Before the crash, prosecutors said Ruggs had spent time at TopGolf in Las Vegas. Following an extensive investigation, he ultimately reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in May 2023. Ruggs pleaded guilty to felony DUI resulting in death and a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge.
In August 2023, he was sentenced to a prison term ranging from three to 10 years.
Ruggs was one of the most explosive playmakers during Alabama's dynasty under head coach Nick Saban. A member of the Crimson Tide's 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship team, Ruggs finished his Alabama career with 98 receptions for 1,716 yards and 24 touchdowns. His game-breaking speed helped make him one of the most dangerous deep threats in college football before he entered the NFL.
Friday's parole decision means Ruggs will continue serving his sentence as the consequences of the deadly crash remain a lasting reminder of a tragedy that forever changed multiple lives.

While Ruggs' football career once appeared destined for stardom, the focus of the case has remained on the loss suffered by Tintor's family and the devastating impact of the crash that occurred nearly five years ago.
