Former Clemson forward Jake Wahlin announces transfer to BYU

Jake Wahlin is on the move again, and this time it brings him full circle, just not in the way some might expect.

After spending one season at Clemson , the forward is transferring to BYU, landing back in his home state of Utah. Wahlin began his college career with Utah, making this decision even more notable as he now joins the Utes’ in-state rival in Provo, the same city he’s from.

His year with the Tigers featured steady playing time, as Wahlin worked his way into the starting lineup and held that role for most of the season. He started 29 games and averaged 5.3 points along with 3.9 rebounds per outing. While he wasn’t a primary scoring option, he provided versatility and effort on both ends. His top performance came in a 14-point game against Morehead State, though his offensive numbers cooled off late in the year, as he didn’t hit double figures in the final stretch of the season.

Before arriving at Clemson , Wahlin had already proven he could handle a larger role. At Utah, he made 23 starts during the 2024-25 campaign and filled the stat sheet with 6.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He also showed range as a forward, knocking down over a third of his three-point attempts while shooting efficiently overall.

His move to Clemson gave him a chance to compete in the ACC and be part of a team that put together a strong season, something he made clear meant a lot to him. After entering the transfer portal, Wahlin shared a message thanking those around the program.

“I want to express my appreciation and gratitude to Clemson University and the incredible fans for welcoming me with so much love,” Wahlin said. “After a year in Tiger Town, I’ve built many deep and meaningful relationships I’ll forever be thankful for. I’m thankful for the coaching staff and entire community for the opportunity to be a part of an incredible culture. To my teammates, thank you for an incredible year. I loved every moment competing alongside my brothers and being a part of a history season.”

Now, he heads to BYU with experience in two high-level conferences and a better understanding of his game. The change also puts him back close to home, where he’ll look to carve out a bigger role and make an impact against familiar competition.
