Blake Miller is one of one."
That's how Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney described the former Tigers lineman after his jump to the NFL, and now Miller has officially put pen to paper with the Detroit Lions .
Detroit announced Tuesday that the first-round pick signed his rookie contract, officially beginning his professional career after four years anchoring Clemson 's offensive line. Miller was selected No. 17 overall in April's NFL Draft and is expected to be part of the Lions' long-term plans up front.
Swinney said Miller separated himself from past Clemson linemen because of both his talent and consistency during his career in Death Valley.
"I've never really had one like him," Swinney said. "On the offensive line, I've had second-rounders, third-rounders, fourth-rounders, every round you can think, but he's my first first-round offensive lineman, and, boy, is he worthy."
Miller's Clemson career was built on durability. He started every game throughout his time with the Tigers and left the program holding the record for most consecutive starts by a non-specialist. He also became the first Clemson offensive lineman in decades to start every game across a four-year career.
His selection in the opening round also continued Clemson's recent success producing top-end NFL talent, marking another first-round draft pick for the program over the last several years.
