Former Curlin Co-Owner Satish Sanan’s 2007 Trophies Up For Auction
Four trophies that were presented to co-owner Satish Sanan of Padua Stables from Curlin's 2007 racing season have been put up for auction by Lelands.com, a Sports Memorabilia auction house.
The trophies included in the sale are a replica of the Woodlawn Vase from his victory in the Preakness Stakes (G1), a replica of the trophy from his Breeders' Cup Classic victory at Monmouth Park, as well as replicas of the Eclipse Awards for Champion Three-Year-Old-Male and Horse of the Year.

"Curlin captured the 2007 Preakness in dramatic fashion, rallying from off the pace to edge Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense by a head at Pimlico Race Course," Leland's writes. "The victory secured the second jewel of the Triple Crown and marked the first Triple Crown race win for the colt, who would later earn Eclipse Awards as Horse of the Year in both 2007 and 2008. Widely regarded among the outstanding Thoroughbreds of his generation, Curlin concluded his career with victories in many of racing's premier events, including the 2007 Breeders Cup Classic and the 2008 Dubai World Cup, before becoming an incredibly successful sire."
As of Aug. 10 at 3 P.M. EDT, all four trophies have received bids, with the Preakness trophy receiving the highest bid at $30,000, which was the amount set for the opening bid.
According to Leland's Auction House: "Produced specifically to commemorate Curlin's Preakness triumph and engraved to Padua Stables as the winning owner, this substantial sterling silver trophy is an event-issued presentation piece from one of the defining victories in modern Thoroughbred racing. Preakness Stakes trophies are extremely rare to come to auction, with fewer than 5 known sales."
The Breeders' Cup Classic and Horse of the Year trophies have both received six bids, with the latest being $4,831 for each. Lastly, the trophy for Champion Three-Year-Old-Male has received three bids, with the latest being $3,300.

Sanan has not responded to requests for comment about the sale; the owner sold his share of Curlin after the 2027 racing season.
In 2013, Sanan sold his Kentucky farm on Old Frankfort Pike near Lexington for $9 million. Six years later, he sold his Summerfield, Fla., base, which was listed at $17.9 million.
Outside of being a co-owner of Curlin, Sanan sent out multiple graded stakes winners under the Padua Stables banner before ceasing operations in 2015.
