The Kansas City Royals have released a right-handed reliever who had previously recorded 56 saves with the organization from 2018-23.
According to the MiLB transaction log , the Royals cut ties with Scott Barlow on Friday.
Barlow signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Athletics during the offseason, but his tenure with the AL West club was ugly.
The 33-year-old posted a 6.48 ERA with 19 walks compared to 29 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.
After the A's released Barlow on June 24, the former Los Angeles Dodgers prospect latched onto a minor league deal with the Royals.
He posted a 5.65 ERA in 14.2 innings at Triple-A Omaha and did not receive a promotion to the Majors.

"During his 2021-22 peak with the Royals, Barlow was genuinely excellent. He pitched 148 2/3 innings with a 2.30 ERA, 28.2% strikeout rate, 8.4% walk rate, 40 saves and 20 holds," Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote about Barlow's six-year tenure with Kansas City .
He now heads to the free agent market. Since Barlow's season has not gone smoothly, he's likely looking at another minor league deal.
