A former HBCU and Alabama Crimson Tide star is getting another shot at the WNBA. Former University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff guard Zaay Green has signed with the Toronto Tempo . She's joined the team on a development deal , becoming one of the two development players on the Tempos' roster. She can now appear in up to 12 regular-season games but will be unable to compete in the postseason.
Green, a Duncanville, Texas native, kicked off her college career at the University of Tennessee in 2018. Playing for the Lady Volunteers, she cracked the starting lineup for most of her freshman season and put up 9.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Her sophomore year showed early flashes of that same promise before a season-ending injury cut it short at just two games.
Seeking a fresh start closer to home, Green transferred to Texas A&M the following season, though she never quite found her footing there. She transferred again, this time to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and it proved to be the right move. Green quickly became one of the SWAC's premier talents, averaging 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game in her first season with the Golden Lions, good enough for First Team All-SWAC honors and the conference's Newcomer of the Year award. Just as she was hitting her stride, another injury wiped out her entire 2022 season.
She responded with a vengeance in her final year at UAPB, topping the Golden Lions in points, rebounds, assists and steals, all with numbers better than her debut season. Her play helped push Arkansas-Pine Bluff to a fourth-place regular season finish in the conference at 17-16 overall (12-7 in league play).
Green carried that momentum into the SEC with Alabama , averaging 15.7 points per game while leading the team with 4.5 assists and shooting 46.7% from the field. That production was enough to get her drafted by the Washington Mystics with the 32nd pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Washington ultimately waived Green during training camp last spring. She then elected to continue her professional journey overseas, joining Kibirkstis Vilnius in Lithuania, AEL in Cyprus and Adelitas in Mexico. Across 51 games for the three different squads, she averaged 12.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.1 steals.
She now joins the Toronto Tempo team that is 10-22 following a loss on Monday to the Atlanta Dream .
