Former Highland Park star Tre Richardson lands at Louisville after breakout season
Former Highland Park standout Tre Richardson has found a new home after breaking out as one of college football's best deep threats this past season.
Richardson announced on Friday, Jan. 9, that he will transfer to Louisville after playing his junior season at Vanderbilt. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder was a multi-sport star for the Scots, where he rushed for 1,964 yards and 27 touchdowns, to go along with 40 receptions for 1,079 yards and 15 scores during his senior year. He also won a pair of state championships in track and averaged 16 points his senior year on the basketball court.
He started his college career at Hutchinson Community College before transferring to Washburn, where he ranked second in the MIAA and top 10 nationally when averaging 146.5 all-purpose yards during his sophomore year.
At Vanderbilt, Richardson broke out with Heisman Trophy runner-up Diego Pavia throwing him the ball. He caught 46 passes for 806 yards and seven touchdowns.
Richardson entered the transfer portal after the season, and 247Sports ranked him as the No. 12 wide receiver in the portal. Reports suggested Richardson was also being courted by Kansas State , Texas, and Georgia, but he chose to play for Jeff Brohm at Louisville.
Louisville is coming off a 9-4 season that ended with a Boca Raton Bowl victory over Toledo on Dec. 23.
