Former Kansas State coach Jerome Tang finds familiar landing spot

After his firing at Kansas State this past season, Jerome Tang has found a familiar landing spot.

Tang is set to return to Baylor as the associate head coach under Scott Drew, according to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel. Tang was previously a longtime assistant with the Bears from 2003-22, and he had held the associate head coach title since 2017.

His tenure as the Wildcats' head coach started with a bang as he led the team to an Elite Eight in his first season in 2023. However, the team regressed to 19-15 in 2023-24 and 16-17 in 2024-25, missing the NCAA tournament in both campaigns.

Amid a 10-15 start this season that featured a 1-11 record in Big 12 play, Tang was fired and ultimately replaced with Belmont's Casey Alexander.

Now, he's back in Waco, where he helped lead the Bears to a national championship as an assistant in 2021. Baylor hasn't advanced beyond the Round of 32 since Tang's departure, and it's coming off a 17-17 season that resulted in its first missed tournament since 2018.
