With injuries mounting, the New England Patriots have added depth . On Wednesday, they signed former Longhorn D'Shawn Jamison to their practice squad. The Houston native will have to battle for a roster spot, but he brings experience to the table and will now look to make his mark in New England.
Since making his NFL debut in 2023, Jamison has appeared in 18 games with the Steelers and the Panthers. The 27-year-old has spent most of his time on special teams, returning three punts for 60 yards. During the 2023 campaign, he got some action on defense, making 10 total tackles in 15 games.
While Jamison is still trying to carve out a role in the NFL, he was impressive during his time as a Longhorn. In 47 games in the burnt orange, he had 139 total tackles and six interceptions. During that stretch, Jamison also got some playing time on special teams, excelling regardless of the role.
Now that Jamison has a new home, he can focus on fighting his way onto the game-day roster. That won't be easy, as the Patriots have a crowded cornerback room, making his most realistic path to suiting up at Gillette Stadium on Sundays on special teams. However, that is a challenge he is ready to tackle.
Although Jamison will have to learn a new system, he is now with an organization that has had a good track record of developing players who have excelled on special teams at other stops. He will not be the only new face on the practice squad as the Patriots also signed RB Hassan Haskins.
