- Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Malik Beasley reportedly negotiating federal plea deal
Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Malik Beasley is reportedly working toward a plea deal with federal prosecutors in connection with allegations of a gambling scheme tied to his on court performances during the 2023 to 2024 NBA season.
The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov reported that Beasley is negotiating with Department of Justice attorneys after court documents filed Friday revealed plans to withdraw his original not guilty plea.
Beasley's lawyer, Steve Haney, stressed that the 29-year-old has not made a final decision to plead guilty. Negotiations with prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York are still underway, and a decision is expected early next week. Federal prosecutors charged Beasley in June, accusing him of deliberately altering his performances in several games to benefit gamblers who wagered on his individual statistics.

The indictment cited four games as part of the alleged scheme, involving the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 26, 2024, the Charlotte Hornets on Feb. 27, the Los Angeles Clippers on March 10 and the Brooklyn Nets on March 21.
Beasley's ongoing legal case has cast a shadow over his nine seasons in the NBA, during which he played for the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons. The former first round selection has collected close to $60 million in career earnings and appeared poised for another major payday after delivering a strong 2024 to 2025 season in Detroit.

The former member of the Bucks averaged 16.3 points per game and converted 41.6% of his three point attempts, earning second place in the NBA Sixth Man of the Year race.
However, reports indicate that Detroit withdrew its proposed three year, $42 million deal after becoming aware of the federal investigation. His situation is one of several league wide federal probes into alleged misconduct involving gambling.
