Former Nets Guard Tyrese Martin Signs With Barcelona

Tyrese Martin is headed overseas for the next chapter of his basketball career.
On Friday, FC Barcelona officially announced the signing of the former Brooklyn Nets guard to a one-year contract, giving the 27-year-old his first opportunity to play professionally in Europe after spending the last several seasons bouncing between the NBA and the G League.
Martin entered free agency earlier this summer after finishing the 2025-26 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. While several European clubs reportedly expressed interest in the veteran wing, Barcelona quickly emerged as the favorite before officially completing the deal.

The move marks the next chapter of Martin's professional career after appearing in 122 regular-season games with the Atlanta Hawks, Nets, and 76ers.
While Martin most recently suited up for the 76ers, it was in Brooklyn where he established himself as a legitimate NBA rotation player.
After signing with the Nets before the 2024-25 season, Martin earned a two-way contract out of training camp and quickly carved out a consistent role in Brooklyn's rotation. His combination of perimeter shooting, defensive versatility and relentless effort made him a valuable piece of Jordi Fernandez's rotation throughout the season.
Martin appeared in 60 games during the 2024-25 campaign, including 11 starts, averaging 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 40.6% from the field and 35.1% from beyond the arc. His energy on both ends of the floor stood out throughout the season, and he became one of the Nets' biggest development success stories.

His biggest moment came on Nov. 27, 2024, when he erupted for a career-high 30 points in a victory over the Phoenix Suns. Martin knocked down eight three-pointers that night, setting a franchise record for points scored by a player on a two-way contract and delivering one of the most memorable performances of Brooklyn's season.
His strong play was eventually rewarded when Brooklyn converted his two-way deal into a standard NBA contract midway through the season.
Martin returned to the Nets in 2025-26 and appeared in 37 games, making six starts while averaging 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Although his role and efficiency declined compared to the previous season, he remained a dependable depth option capable of defending multiple positions and providing floor spacing when called upon.

Brooklyn ultimately waived Martin at the February trade deadline as the franchise continued reshaping its roster. He later signed a two-way contract with the 76ers, appearing in nine NBA games before becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Now, Martin will begin the next phase of his career with one of Europe's most recognizable basketball clubs.
Barcelona reached the Liga ACB Finals last season and also competed in the EuroLeague, making it one of the continent's premier destinations. The club expects Martin to provide outside shooting, rebounding and defensive versatility while adjusting to the European style of play.
For Martin, the opportunity offers a fresh start after four professional seasons spent fighting for NBA minutes. His time in Brooklyn showed he could contribute at the league's highest level, especially as a dependable three-and-D wing, and a productive season with Barcelona could eventually put him back on the radar for another NBA opportunity.

Martin's time in Brooklyn proved he belonged at the NBA level. After turning a two-way contract into a standard deal and becoming a reliable rotation player, he'll now look to build on that success with Barcelona.
