Former veteran NFL quarterback Brian Hoyer has announced a "devastating" family loss on Wednesday.
Hoyer, 40, played in the league from 2009 to 2023. He started for eight different NFL franchises, the second-most in league history. Hoyer went undrafted out of Michigan State and was a Super Bowl champion with the Patriots in 2019.
But the former NFL quarterback is experiencing a "devastating" family loss on Wednesday. His sister-in-law, Carissa, died suddenly.
"It is with a heavy heart that I write this. On February 13th, my little brother lost his wife Carissa suddenly and unexpectedly. She leaves behind him and their four little girls, Josie, Lainey, Ellie, and Hattie. In an instant, he became a widowed father to four daughters under 12," he announced.

The former NFL quarterback is asking for help.
"If you can find it in your heart to help us help him and his girls through this unimaginable season, we would be forever grateful. We can't take away their pain, but together we can help carry the weight. Your support can help ease their burden during this painful time. Please consider donating or sharing to show you care. Every bit helps," he wrote.
GoFundMe started for Hoyer's family
"At just 37 years old, Brett is now navigating life as a widowed father to four young girls. The grief is overwhelming, and the road ahead feels daunting. As they face the painful reality of life without Cari, the added financial burden brings even more uncertainty during an already heartbreaking time," the GoFundMe reads.
"Beyond immediate costs, this fund will help ease daily pressures as Brett steps into the role of a single parent.
"Our hope is simple. We want Brett to be able to focus on loving his girls, grieving together, and beginning the long process of healing without the constant weight of financial stress.
"We cannot take away their pain, but together we can help carry the weight.
"If you are able, please consider giving whatever you feel led to give. Any donation, prayer, or share means more than words can express. Thank you for surrounding this family with love during their darkest days."
Hoyer played in the league from 2009-13, earning $46 million.
