- Former NFL Star Roddy White Thinks Ryan Clark's Outspokenness Hurt Him
As players, Roddy White and Ryan Clark butted heads many times. But as a retired player and coach, White has a newfound respect for Clark - especially on the heels of Clark's removal from ESPN.
In an interview with Hard Rock Bet , the former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver called the former Pittsburgh Steelers safety "exceptional at his job" and felt it was unfortunate that he was released from ESPN because he's so good.

White mused that Clark's removal had more to do with his penchant for speaking up on non-football issues, which he believes ESPN frowns upon. He believes that Clark will land on his feet "fairly quickly."
"I think Ryan Clark is exceptional at his job. It's unfortunate that he got released by ESPN because he is so good at what he does," White said. "Usually, guys who are that good don't lose their jobs.
"Clark speaks up on a lot of issues outside of football. He is always standing up for the Black community and being on our side. I think this and his opinionated nature may have cost him his job because ESPN, as a network, doesn't want people touching on politics and community-related topics. They just want everything to be sports-related.

"So, it was frustrating for me because he's talented at what he does. I wish him nothing but the best, and I think he's going to get another job fairly quickly."
The Layoffs
ESPN recently underwent its most significant round of layoffs in three years as part of a major restructuring tied largely to its integration of NFL Network and other NFL Media assets. ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro said that the workforce reduction follows the company's acquisition of NFL Network, NFL Fantasy, and RedZone distribution rights, which created overlapping roles across multiple departments.

While many behind-the-scenes production and operations employees were affected, several high-profile on-air personalities were also let go, including Clark, veteran baseball broadcaster Karl Ravech, NFL insider Tom Pelissero, longtime SportsCenter anchor David Lloyd, fantasy football analyst Stephania Bell, and former NFL MVP Cam Newton .

The layoffs have generated widespread discussion throughout the sports media industry, with critics questioning the departure of several respected broadcasters and analysts despite ESPN's continued investment in premium live sports rights.

The cuts come as Disney continues broader cost-saving initiatives while preparing ESPN for a streaming-focused future and its expanded NFL partnership, which includes the league receiving a 10% equity stake in ESPN.
