A former tight end of the North Carolina Tar Heels has been added to a roster in the NFL this week.
Former Tar Heel pass-catcher Bryson Nesbit has been signed to the practice squad for the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota has been dealing with some injuries at the tight end position, and this gives them some needed depth to work with.
Nesbit originally signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2025, but he was waived as part of roster cuts before the season started. Minnesota re-signed him the next day, but he has yet to play in a regular-season game for the franchise.
The Vikings did play Nesbit in the preseason last year, with him putting up three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. The hope for Nesbit is that he could earn some playing time, especially with all the injuries to the tight ends on the Minnesota roster.
But now that he is back with the Vikings, he could have a chance to prove himself with this team. Due to his familiarity with Minnesota, the Vikings may elect to give him a chance on the field.
Nesbit will now join a tight end room alongside starter TJ Hockenson, Gavin Bartholomew, and Ben Yurosek as the only players at the position on the active roster. Minnesota will have to work with what they have this week against the Detroit Lions, in what should be a tough game for both sides.
The veteran played four years at North Carolina, where he put up 107 receptions for 1,510 yards and 13 touchdowns. Nesbit found a lot of success with the Tar Heels, but it wasn't enough to get himself drafted.
His best season with the Tar Heels came in 2023, when he put up 41 receptions for 585 yards and five touchdown catches. Nesbit earned All-ACC honors during the 2023 season for his performance out on the field.
For now, the former Tar Heels tight end will try to show out for the Vikings on the practice squad, just hoping to be given a chance out on the field. But this is a good sign for Nesbit that the Vikings brought him back, keeping his chances of playing a little stronger.
The Vikings and Lions will kick off their game on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m ET from Ford Field in Detroit.
