With the Boston Red Sox firing manager Alex Cora and other coaches, there has been a massive conversation on the internet about whether the move should have happened or not. The conversation then leads to Red Sox executive Craig Breslow, and if he’s next on the chopping block , as a former player signaled that he’s a big part of the reason for the team’s disappointment.
It was a shocking decision for many as Boston officially announced the decision after the 17-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. While the person remained anonymous, the player is still active in the MLB and used to play for the Red Sox, messaging Gabrielle Starr that Breslow “should fire himself” and has no accountability.
“Just no accountability on (Breslow’s) part. Fires everyone but his pitching coaches? 7 coaches?! He should fire himself,” the player wrote.
Red Sox’s Craig Breslow on the “fresh start”
With the decision to fire Cora, the Red Sox have elevated Chad Tracy as the interim manager, with Boston executives not ruling out the possibility of finding a permanent replacement during the season. According to Sam Kennedy, who acts as the president of the team, Breslow was the one who decided to let go of Cora, as the chief baseball officer spoke of it as a “fresh start.”
“By acting today, it gives us 135 games ahead of us, so we’ve got almost a full season’s worth of run to take advantage of this fresh start and ultimately to compete for a division and deep postseason run in the way that we talked about it and envisioned and believed heading into spring training,” Breslow said, via ESPN.
“We believe in the group of players that we have in the clubhouse, down the hallway, and we believe that a new direction is warranted, new voices, and something that enables us to take a fresh start.”
At any rate, Boston is currently 10-17, putting them last in the AL East, as the team finishes the series against the Orioles on Sunday afternoon, before starting a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.
