Former star pitcher urges Brewers to trade for Tarik Skubal appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The MLB trade deadline is still a couple of months away, but trade rumors are already swirling about Detroit Tigers star Tarik Skubal . Teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are being mentioned as potential suitors, but could the Milwaukee Brewers acquire Skubal? Former star pitcher Dontrelle Willis believes Milwaukee should attempt to acquire the Tigers star, which is something he explained on Fox Sports.
"I would love to see them (Brewers) get Skubal," Willis said. "Because he has the big game experience and he can go on the road and shut the opposing team's offense down, whether it's the Dodgers or the Braves or anybody else… This is a situation where if you're a Brewers fan, you want them to take the next step because they've been to the postseason but they've had a lot of heartbreak especially in recent memory… You go out and get that, it can feel like a CC Sabathia move and you saw what they did with that."
Willis mentioned the Brewers' trade for CC Sabathia from 2008. That season, Milwaukee acquired Sabathia from the Cleveland Indians (now Cleveland Guardians) before the trade deadline. Although Sabathia was set to enter free agency during the offseason and the Brewers surely knew he was going to sign elsewhere, the star pitcher helped Milwaukee's postseason run.
Trading for Skubal would be a similar situation. He is expected to receive one of the biggest contracts in MLB history for a pitcher during the offseason. The small-market Brewers likely would not be able to re-sign him, but they could still acquire him at the trade deadline in hopes of making a World Series run.
