Former Vanderbilt guard enters transfer portal, seeks medical hardship
After coach Mark Byington announced earlier this month that he is no longer with the team, Vanderbilt guard Frankie Collins officially announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Friday.
Collins, who appeared in just nine games for the Commodores this season and hasn't seen the court since December, will seek a medical hardship waiver to allow him to play a sixth season, per On3's Joe Tipton.
A transfer addition from TCU this past offseason, Collins averaged 7.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists at Vandy this season. He's coming off a season-ending foot fracture in 2024-25, which occurred just nine games into his lone season with the Horned Frogs.
The 6-foot-1 Sacramento native previously played at Arizona State and Michigan , and he's now looking to join his fifth team in six years. His most successful campaign came in 2023-24 with the Sun Devils, when he started 32 games and averaged 13.8 points.
