Former Vikings TE finds new home with the Eagles
Kevin O'Connell once said that Johnny Mundt was the best No. 3 tight end in football. So Minnesota Vikings fans may have taken notice when Mundt was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this week.
However, the Philadelphia Eagles swooped in and signed Mundt on Tuesday.
Mundt played in 16 games last season, following former Vikings assistant coach Grant Udinski to Jacksonville last offseason. As a Jaguar, Mundt caught nine passes for 111 yards.
Before that, Mundt spent the previous three seasons with the Vikings. He started 15 of 51 games played, catching 55 passes for 454 yards and four touchdowns.
Mundt was a reliable depth piece for O'Connell, who coached the tight end with the Rams in 2020 and 2021. He wasn't flashy, but Mundt was a willing blocker and a reliable target when he saw his limited opportunities.
