- After four-week road trip, NSU returns home vs. Texas Permian Basin
After four games and nearly a month, Northeastern State University football is set to return home.
The RiverHawks take on the Texas Permian Basin Falcons at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at home at the newly renovated Doc Wadley Field. NSU is looking to get back in the win column after back-to-back losses vs. D1 foes ended a 10-game winning streak dating back to last year and a three-game streak that started the season.
The Falcons come into the game with a 3-1 record and a three-game winning streak. After putting up zero points on opening day, the Falcons have scored at least 56 points in each of the last three games.
NSU, on the other hand, is fresh of a showdown with FCS D1, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin.
The RiverHawks are looking to get back to their high scoring ways after scoring 17 and 14 points in the last two games. Prior to that, NSU was averaging 36.6 points per game.
Despite losing to SFA, quarterback Donnie Smith had a solid outing with his fourth game of at least 250 yards. The senior quarterback threw for 326 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Right before halftime, Smith led the RiverHawks on a long drive down the field and capped it off with a score to Deuce Roberson with eight seconds left on the clock.
The RiverHawks head into the homecoming showdown with a 3-2 record and a new turf field.
During the four week road trip, the RiverHawks made improvements to Doc Wadley Stadium, laying down new turf and installing a new scoreboard. The turf features a giant RiverHawks logo in the center of the field and end zones that read Northeastern State University in Cherokee.
Coming into the game, NSU is ranked No. 15 by D2football.com and No. 21 by the American Football Coaches Association poll.
