The miles pile up faster on running backs than probably any other position in the NFL.
Frank Gore's odometer just kept ticking and ticking.
The running back with the most games played in NFL history, Gore will have to wait for his call to Canton. He is not part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2026 class, which was announced Thursday, Feb. 5 during the NFL Honors telecast. Gore was a finalist in his first year of eligibility.
Frank Gore 's stats and Hall of Fame credentials
Gore played for five teams in his 16-year career, which totaled 241 games. His first 10 years came with the San Francisco 49ers , who selected him in the third round, 65th overall, of the 2005 draft.
A native of Coral Gables, Fla., Gore starred at the University of Miami before embarking on a pro career that was about sustained production and longevity.
Gore never seemed to be a marquee name among NFL running backs. Yet his 16,000 career rushing yards are third in NFL history, behind only Walter Payton (16,726) and Emmitt Smith (18,355). His 19,985 yards from scrimmage are fourth in NFL history, behind only Payton (21,264), Smith (21,579) and Jerry Rice (23,540). Gore is third in career rushing attempts with 3,735. He scored 100 career touchdowns, 81 of them rushing.
The 5-foot-9, 212-pound Gore enjoyed a nice rookie season of 608 yards at 4.8 a carry and three touchdowns with the 49ers before breaking out in his second year. He totaled career highs of 1,695 rushing yards and 2,180 scrimmage yards to earn PFWA's Most Improved Player. It was the first of his five Pro Bowl selections.
It also was the first of nine 1,000-yard rushing seasons in an 11-year span for Gore.
Gore's San Francisco teams made three postseason appearances. He ran for four playoff TDs in 2012 to help them reach Super Bowl XVLII — a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens . Gore rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
Gore's 11,073 rushing yards with the 49ers is a franchise record. He followed his San Francisco tenure with three years with the Indianapolis Colts and single seasons with the Miami Dolphins , Buffalo Bills and New York Jets .
Gore is on the Hall of Fame's all-decade team of the 2010s, joining fellow backs Marshawn Lynch , LeSean McCoy and Adrian Peterson .
