Fresh Faces on the Forty: Freshman RB Jett Walker
Jett Walker kicks off the “diamond in the rough” section of the Longhorns class. We are past the five and four stars. It’s time for the guys that, if they hit, will become Longhorn fan favorites in a hurry. Trevor Goosby fits into this group, as do guys like Alex January, Connor Robertson and many more. This is the group that can turn you from great to elite. In my opinion, Walker is another player that will be one of those fan favorites by the time he’s leaving Austin.
High School Stats:5,846 rushing yards(139.2 per game), 84 TDs in four seasons
Jett Walker was a late flip from Minnesota just 10 days before early signing day. The 6’2”, 215 lbs RB comes in from Georgetown, Texas where he spent his senior year of high school before enrolling in Texas this January. Despite the size, he is a true track star, running an 11.06 100-meter and 23.05 200-meter as a junior. That is elite speed for someone over 200lbs and it shows up on tape with true breakaway ability.
Walker enters a RB room that is seemingly loaded heading into 2026. Tre Wisner, CJ Baxter, Christian Clark and Rickey Stewart Jr. left but Hollywood Smothers, Raleek Brown and Derek Cooper walked in. Along with James Simon, it’s a room that has experienced top line with two great talents behind them. Walker likely finds himself behind Simon and Cooper in the pecking order but I think that ends after 2026.
Walker, to me, could be the perfect piece behind Cooper as the RB2 heading into 2027. He’s got great size, runs between the tackles very well and still has that homerun ability. Now, James Simon could stick around and Walker becomes a true redzone option but that is still very valuable. This is someone that could take the Tre Wisner path: elite special teamer for a year or two, then get real reps at RB.
Walker is someone I am personally buying stock in. He’s unlikely to find the field in the fall(outside possibly special teams) but don’t be shocked if he is a true factor heading into 2027 for Texas. To me, the same applies for Walker’s high school teammate, three-star IOL Kaden Scherer. Tomorrow, we’ll discuss why he could be Kyle Flood’s next success story.
