Fresh Faces On The Forty: New Texas guard Joe Sterling

Fresh Faces on the Forty rolls on with another star freshman joining Sean Miller’s squad, Joe Sterling . The Encino, California product comes to Austin as a true flamethrower from three-point range. At 6-4, he brings great length to the table for an elite shooter, giving him more defensive and positional versatility. Sterling adds to a special trio of freshmen joining Texas this offseason.

2025 Stats: 22 PPG, 5 REB, 4 AST, 46% FG 43% 3PT

Sterling shined as a shooter during the Pro16 season, shooting an insane 44% from distance on 8 attempts a game. According to Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports Director of Scouting, he struggled at times around the rim and defensively but brings a great feel for the game to the table. He’s someone that might not be a complete product early but can have an immediate impact off the bench.

Among Goosby and Ogden, Sterling comes in as the least likely to find the court consistently his freshmen year. That being said, his ability to shoot the basketball is something that can get him minutes early. Sterling and Ogden could end up being “spark plugs” off the bench that can change the game from the outside.

Sterling represented the penultimate fresh face edition(for now). Tomorrow, we have to talk about the most recent addition to the roster, Coleman Elkens. The unranked C comes in with a longer path to the country but interesting long term upside.
