Oct. 3—FSU WR Josiah Freeman
The speedy senior wide receiver Josiah Freeman torched WSU's defense through the air and on the ground. In the first half, he made a contested one-handed grab in the end zone, but could not secure the ball in bounds as veteran cornerback Khamari Terrell pushed him out of bounds in midair. But in the third quarter, Freeman scored the game's first touchdown on a 3-yard rush — his second rush attempt of the game. He led all receivers with seven catches on nine targets for 61 yards receiving and added 17 rushing yards. His longest catch came with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. Fresno State quarterback Jayden Mandal passed to Freeman on a short completion out of the shotgun, and Freeman turned it into a 19-yard gain.
WSU CB Khamari Terrell
It's difficult to choose just one individual out of a defensive unit that held Fresno State's offense to just 13 points through the third quarter and blocked a field goal, while its counterparts on the offensive side produced a lackluster six points — two field goals from Jack Stevens — and just nine first downs. But it was senior cornerback Khamari Terrell who led the way for defensive coordinator Trent Bray. Midway through the second quarter, Terrell tightly covered wide receiver Josiah Freeman and prevented a potential touchdown, which forced the Bulldogs to kick a field goal and gave the Cougars a chance to tie the game. Terrell finished the day with six tackles — all solo — one pass breakup, and one tackle for loss.
