Barcelona's Champions League meeting with Galatasaray has gained an unexpected talking point ahead of kick-off, with midfielder Mario Lemina facing renewed attention over past comments about Lamine Yamal.
The Gabon international's remarks have resurfaced on social media just hours before the sides meet in Istanbul, attracting criticism from some Barcelona supporters.
The controversy centres on a comparison between Yamal and Leroy Sane, Lemina's teammate at Galatasaray.
Although the comments date back to August 2025, their timing has brought them back into the spotlight as Barcelona prepare for a demanding European away fixture.
During an interview, Lemina was asked which player he considered better: Sané or Barcelona's teenage sensation. His response was blunt: "Who is Lamine Yamal? I don't know him. I know Sane."
The midfielder's answer became a talking point when it first emerged, and the clip has now circulated again ahead of the Champions League encounter.
It remains unclear whether Lemina intended the remark as a joke, a provocative response or simply a show of support for his club teammate.
However, some Barça fans have interpreted it as a dismissal of Yamal's ability, particularly given the Barcelona winger's standing in European football and the Ballon d'Or conversation.
The timing of the controversy is particularly notable because Yamal is preparing to face Galatasaray for the first time in his career.

Yamal's growing reputation makes him one of the players Barcelona fans will be watching closely, and the renewed attention surrounding Lemina's comments adds another subplot to the contest.
Meanwhile, for Barcelona, the priority will be to deliver a strong performance on the pitch rather than allowing a year-old interview to become a distraction.
Yet, if Yamal produces a decisive display, the exchange could take on a different significance after the final whistle.
Lemina's words may have been made long before this Champions League meeting, but their return to circulation has ensured that the midfield battle and Yamal's performance will attract even greater attention.
