😮💨 Genoa made to work by Sudtirol, but Vasquez sets up Inter tie 🏆
Genoa get past Südtirol and book their place in the Coppa Italia round of 16. De Rossi 'sside had to wait until the closing stages to find the decisive goal, but in the end they managed to overcome Possanzini's team and provide a response after their difficult start to the league season.

After beating Ascoli in the previous round, the Rossoblù did it again, setting up a round-of-16 clash with Cristian Chivu's Inter.
😰 What a struggle!
At the Ferraris, Genoa tried to dictate the game, but Südtirol defended in an organised way and gave away little. De Rossi named a starting XI with several changesfrom the league side, also giving opportunities to less-used players, but the deadlock was not broken in the first half.
In fact, even after the break, the Grifone struggled to find the right opening, while the visitors stayed in the game. The (few) fans in attendance at Marassi certainly did not witness much of a spectacle, so much so that more than a few whistleswere already being directed at the home side from the first half.

And in the second half, the real chances fell to the visitors, who on at least a couple of occasions came within inches of taking the lead, only to be denied by the wall put up by Stolz, starting in goal today in place of Bijlow.
💪 Vásquez settles it late on
But just when the match seemed to be heading for extra time, the decisive moment arrived. And as against Frosinone, captain Vásquezcame to the rescue, scoring in the 87th minute to break the deadlock and send his side through. The Mexican defender, who came on from the bench, thus became the man of the night and handed De Rossi a valuable qualification.
Genoa therefore take home an important win above all for morale, even if there was still very little to take from today's performance. After the 1-1 draw against Frosinone in the league, another positive result arrives, which should help ahead of Sunday's already crucial clash with Parma .
