The geopolitical standoff between China and Kylian Mbappé shakes LaLiga's financial foundations on a day of sporting contrasts: while Manolo González is abruptly sacked by Espanyol and Arsenal suffer an unforgettable cup humiliation against a fourth-tier side, Hansi Flick makes a move for Germany's latest wonderkid and Nico Paz dazzles in Italy.
China's state broadcaster has confirmed the complete suspension of LALIGA broadcasts and advertising content linked to Kylian Mbappé. Beijing has flatly rejected Real Madrid's explanations, arguing that the French striker's remarks "go beyond freedom of expression," and is demanding an immediate apology from the club before resuming any commercial ties.
The Copa del Rey has claimed its first major managerial casualty. RCD Espanyol have sacked Manolo González following their humiliating 4-3 defeat to Sestao River. The cup exit compounds the club's poor run, and the board is already scouring the market for an urgent replacement to take charge.
At Barcelona, the sporting department is stepping up its efforts at the coach's express request. Hansi Flick has made Finn Jeltsch, the promising 20-year-old defender in German football, his top priority. Scouting reports back his potential to make an immediate impact in strengthening Barça's defence in the coming transfer windows.
In Italy, Como remain the team of the moment thanks to Nico Paz's talent. The attacker led a brilliant comeback away at Torino in a 3-1 win, recording a goal and an assist to cement his status as one of the Italian league's most dangerous breakout stars.
The day's biggest shock comes from England. Mikel Arteta's Arsenal were knocked out of the League Cup on penalties by lowly fourth-tier club Fleetwood Town. Even a starting spot for Martín Zubimendi could not prevent disaster for the Gunners, who finished with ten men after Max Dowman received a straight red card.
