Georgia defensive back Ja'Marley Riddle received a significant legal victory this week.
According to court records, felony drug possession charges filed against Riddle following his May arrest in Glynn County have been dismissed. The development removes one of the most serious legal concerns facing the East Carolina transfer as he prepares for his first season with the Bulldogs.

Riddle was arrested in May after a traffic stop on Interstate 95. Authorities initially charged him with felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and felony marijuana possession, along with a speeding violation. The case quickly drew attention given Georgia's recent history of player arrests and traffic-related incidents.
However, court proceedings ultimately resulted in the dismissal of the felony drug charges. While details surrounding the dismissal were not fully disclosed, the outcome represents a major step forward for the veteran defensive back and his future with the program.
The former East Carolina standout arrived in Athens with expectations of competing for meaningful snaps in Georgia's secondary. During his collegiate career, Riddle established himself as an experienced defensive back known for his versatility and physical play, making him a valuable addition to Kirby Smart's defense.
The dismissal also removes uncertainty surrounding his football future. Had the felony charges remained in place, questions about potential team discipline and long-term availability likely would have continued throughout the offseason.

Georgia has not publicly commented in detail on the latest court ruling, but the development is undoubtedly welcome news for a program looking to focus on football heading into the 2026 campaign.
For Riddle, the decision closes a difficult chapter and allows attention to shift back toward earning a role on one of college football's most talented defenses. With preseason preparations underway, the Bulldogs now appear likely to have another experienced option available in the secondary when the season begins.
