- Georgia football RB Dante Dowdell shares injury update, players show support

Georgia senior running back Dante Dowdell shared an Instagram video on Monday, Sept. 7, with an update about his recovery from his severe offseason ATV accident.
Dowdell's video shared that he spent two and a half months in the hospital with a punctured lung, nerve damage to his right arm, broken ribs and collarbones, and had to get nine staples in his head.
"God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers!!," the caption read before the Bible verse Jeremiah 29:11 (' For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future '). "STORY NOT OVER."
Senior defensive back Kyron Jones has a firsthand understanding of what Dowdell is going through. Jones went through his own injury last season when he hurt his foot and was unsure when his return would be.
"Something that really kind of stuck with me during my recovery process and being injured was John 13:7 (' You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand ')," Jones said. "I lived by that and realized that I didn't know what God was doing in my life, but I trusted him. So that's something I tell (Dante)."

In his weekly press conference, Georgia coach Kirby Smart commended the medical staff on Dowdell's case.
"Our medical staff, Connor (Norman) and Ryan (Madaleno), have been unbelievable with communication, talking to his family, talking to Shepherd Center and different places," Smart said. "They've been with him every step of the way, along with coach (Josh) Crawford in the running back room. They got to go over and visit him, see him in Atlanta. They reach out and talk to him a lot. He's been around the team some, but he knows what his priorities are right now and that's trying to get better."
Jones said the toughest part about being injured is not being able to play, not being able to contribute, even just in practice.
"We're really trying to reassure (Dante)," sophomore tight end Elyiss Williams said. "It's a tough time for him. So, we're just there for him, being people he can lean on."
Georgia (1-0) hosts Western Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 12:45 p.m. on SEC Network.
