A Balanced Attack Takes Over
Georgia State didn't just win on Saturday; they dominated the line of scrimmage with a physical rushing attack that left Kennesaw State defenseless. Lanear McCrary Jr. carried the load perfectly, running for 101 yards and a score to anchor a ground game that rushed for 230 total yards per ESPN Singapore . The Panthers moved the ball with ease, finishing the day with 483 total yards while controlling the clock and the tempo. Cameran Brown did the rest, throwing for 253 yards and adding a rushing touchdown of his own to keep the Owls guessing. Brown connected with eight different receivers on 16 of 23 passes, showing he can stretch the field or run when the pocket breaks down. This dual-threat capability from Brown and McCrary Jr. created a nightmare for Kennesaw State that they simply could not solve. Samer Layous added three field goals to round out the scoring, making sure every drive mattered. The result was a 31-17 victory that improved Georgia State to 2-0 on the season.

Owls Struggle to Find Rhythm
Kennesaw State looked lost in the first half, falling behind 21-3 by half time. The Owls finally found a spark when Rickie Collins ran for a 12-yard touchdown late in the third quarter, but the hole was already too deep to climb out of. Collins threw for 260 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 46 more, yet his team still managed only 72 rushing yards as a unit according to ESPN . The stats tell the story of a team that struggled to convert big plays into points until it was too late. Jamari Harrold caught a 3-yard pass from Collins for the final score with under two minutes left, but the damage was done. Kennesaw State dropped to 1-1 on the season, leaving them with a massive test on the horizon. They need to fix their run defense and their ability to stop the clock if they want to survive the SEC.
Next Up: A Huge Test for Both Sides
The schedule gets brutal immediately for both teams as they head into Week 3 of the 2026 college football season. Georgia State travels to face UCF next Saturday, looking to build on this momentum against a tough nonconference opponent. Meanwhile, Kennesaw State faces a true monster in No. 15 Tennessee , who will host the Owls at Neyland Stadium on Saturday night per Yahoo Sports . The game kicks off at 7:45 p.m. EDT and will be televised on the SEC Network, marking the first meeting between these two schools. Tennessee is already 2-0, while Kennesaw State must prove they belong in the same room as a ranked SEC power. This is a defining moment for Jerry Mack's program as they try to prove their Conference USA title was no fluke. The Owls started their football journey in 2015 and have climbed fast, but this is a different level of competition. Can they hang with the Vols, or will the gap between Conference USA and the SEC show up again?
