Georgia Tech's brutal finish vs Colorado doesn't change how Brent Key felt about opener appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
Georgia Tech was a 45-yard field goal away from beginning the season 1-0 and stomping on Colorado 's heart, but defensive back Boo Carter blocked the attempt in the closing seconds and lifted the Buffaloes to a wacky 14-13 victory in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets entered the season opener as the favorite and they had the game in hand late in the fourth quarter multiple times. One disastrous play will define this Power Four face-off, but head coach Brent Key is not dwelling on the kick.
And that is because he was unsatisfied with Georgia Tech's performance well before the FG-block.
"Brent Key said even if {Aidan} Birr had made the kick they wouldn't have felt good about the way the team played," Kelly Quinlan of Rivals and On3 reported on X. "He said he opened talking to the team about that. He said Colorado outplayed and out-coached Tech and deserved to win."

The Yellow Jackets lumbered for most of this home matchup, as Justice Haynes managed only 3.4 yards per carry, Birr missed two field goals and the team committed nine penalties for 49 yards. A Rahkeem Smith 100-yard kick return touchdown, a Kevin Roche Jr. FG-block and a stout defensive showing enabled Key's squad to gain and keep control, but the momentum shifted right back to Colorado when it mattered most.
Georgia Tech football failed to execute on a consistent basis, and the result is a stinging defeat that could have been avoided. Brent Key must get his guys refocused before a Sept. 12 meeting with No. 20 Tennessee . The Yellow Jackets could have obviously learned from an ugly win, but a devastating loss will send an ear-splitting message to the locker room.
