The Georgia Bulldogs are just about a month out from the start of the season with fall camp upon them, and there are some questions fans have about the roster.
While the defense looks as strong as ever, the offense may only go as far as the passing game can with the running game unable to completely shoulder the load for getting first downs and scoring points. Gunner Stockton should take a leap in his second year, but he has an entirely different -- and inexperienced -- group of pass catchers that he will have to get on the same page as.
Much of the focus has been on guys like transfer wide receiver Isiah Canion and rising senior Landon Humphreys, but one guy some have forgotten about after a rough first year is a former five-star looking to make a leap. After catching just two passes last season, Talyn Taylor was able to redshirt the season and now hits the reset button.
David Hale of ESPN thinks Taylor is the X-factor for this team and someone who can dramatically raise the ceiling of the offense.
"[Taylor's] upside remains incredibly high," Hale wrote. "As a senior in high school, he netted nearly 2,200 all-purpose yards, and his speed could help fill a major void left by the departing Zachariah Branch. Still, for all the obvious buzz, Taylor has a lot left to prove, and Georgia's other options at receiver are no more established. A breakout year from Taylor could be a game changer for the Dawgs' offense."
As the No. 20 overall player and No. 4 wide receiver in the country for the high school class of 2025, a slow first season makes it easy to forget just how much hype Taylor had coming into his career.
We have seen countless cases though of it taking guys multiple years to develop and get things going, and the hope for Taylor is that he was able to use his first year in the program as a learning experience to get better and be ready to contribute at a higher level this year.
The Bulldogs offense is desperate for a playmaker to emerge and be Gunner Stockton's go-to guy, and while that may be a lot to ask out of a guy with two career catches, Taylor might just have the highest ceiling of anyone on this roster.
When Georgia takes the field this season, Taylor will be someone fans have a very close eye on whenever he is on the field.
