The San Francisco Giants earned a big 12-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. Thanks to an offensive onslaught early in the contest, followed by six runs scored in the top of the seventh, San Francisco took a rather commanding lead. The team made some impressive plays on defense as well, with outfielder Drew Gilbert stealing the spotlight by robbing Andrew Vaughn 's would-be home run.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Milwaukee had a chance to add more runs on the board after Vaughn launched one to deep right-center. It looked as though it was going to go over the fence, but Gilbert made a brilliant play , snagging the ball right as it was crossing the yellow home run line.
It was a big day for the second-year pro, as he helped the Giants offensively, too. In five at-bats out of the ninth hole, Gilbert managed to record two hits while scoring a run. Overall, it's been a solid campaign for him, as the 25-year-old outfielder seems to be settling in for San Francisco.
Thursday's contest jumped his numbers up a tad on the season. Through a total of 123 at-bats in 2026, Gilbert has recorded 29 hits, three home runs, and 12 RBIs, giving him a .236 batting average in 44 games played.
Drew Gilbert will have a chance to continue developing as a prospect and build upon this season in the Giants' next game on Friday. San Francisco is scheduled to take on the Chicago Cubs on the road at 2:20 p.m. EST. It will be the first matchup of a three-game series.
