On Sunday in Philadelphia, the surging Giants will try to increase their NFC East lead by beating the reeling Eagles, who are giving quarterback Joe Milton his first NFL start.
But will the Giants have two of their most important players — running back Cam Skattebo and outside linebacker Abdul Carter — for this game?
Well, it looks like Carter will play — but Skattebo's status is up in the air.
After Wednesday's practice, coach John Harbaugh said Carter, who is sick, "should be fine" for this week. Meanwhile, Skattebo is "day to day."
Later Wednesday, the Giants released their first injury report for this Week 9 showdown.
Skattebo and Carter officially did not practice.
These notable players were limited participants, though all figure to play Sunday: right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (calf), cornerback Colton Hood (illness), returner Charlie Jones (hand) and left tackle Andrew Thomas (groin).
Skattebo hurt his hamstring during overtime of the Giants' thrilling pre-bye week win in Houston. He downplayed the injury after the game. But clearly, it is a lingering problem, even coming out of the bye.
Yes, the Giants could replace Skattebo as their No. 1 back by trading for Jonathan Taylor. But at this point, even if a Taylor trade happens in the immediate future, he surely would not be in position to play Sunday.
With Tyrone Tracy (hamstring) on injured reserve and out for at least the next four games, the Giants on Sunday might need to turn to Devin Singletary as their primary back.
Tracy expects to miss only the next four games — and no action beyond that. So that would be positive for the Giants.
Carter was not on the injury report at all leading up to the Houston game. But a game prior, he was listed as questionable to face the Saints because of a calf issue.
Carter did not practice Wednesday or Thursday that week — and then was limited on Friday. He wound up playing 65% of the snaps against New Orleans. Then he was completely off the injury report for Week 7.

Carter got a bigger workload (93% of the snaps) in Houston.
The good news for the Giants: Carter is still no longer dealing with his calf issue, since his illness is the only reason he's on the injury report.
After Sunday, the Giants face a quick turnaround before a Thursday night home game against the Commanders. So this is an important two-game stretch of division games, as they try to win the NFC East.
