The Giants finished their West Virginia practices and immediately added another offensive lineman. Brenden Jaimes signed Saturday, one week before the preseason opener against Minnesota.
Jaimes has appeared in 50 NFL games with three starts over five seasons. He stands 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, and most of his professional work has come at center even though he played tackle at Nebraska .
That versatility explains the timing. New York does not need another lineman who can handle one spot in a quiet practice. It needs someone who can enter a preseason game, move if an injury happens and keep the offense functional.

Brenden Jaimes warms up before a game during his time with the Chargers.
The Giants have a crowded offensive line decision
Jaimes joins a group that already includes veterans and recent draft investments. Andrew Thomas has returned to anchor the line, while Francis Mauigoa is working through his first NFL camp. The final jobs will come down to positional flexibility and whether the reserve unit can protect all three quarterbacks.
I do not see Jaimes as a threat to the starting five on arrival. His case is simpler. Fifty games and experience at center can beat a younger player who needs another year of development.
Brenden Jaimes gets one fast Giants audition
The preseason gives him almost no settling period. Minnesota will test communication, handoffs and depth across the interior. A bad series will stand out because the Giants signed him with the evaluation already underway.
Jaimes has survived several NFL roster cycles because he can cover more than one assignment. New York signed him late enough that the reason feels obvious: the back of this offensive line remains unsettled, and the staff wants another experienced option before the cuts begin.
