The New York Giants were holding out hope Roy Robertson-Harris could return from his torn Achilles tendon injury, but that seems to have faded.
The Giants placed Robertson-Harris on injured reserve Wednesday, three months after he sustained the injury, amid a flurry of roster moves.
Robertson-Harris, who signed a two-year, $9 million contract before the 2025 season, sustained the injury during OTAs on May 21 . He had 35 tackles and one pass defended for the Giants in 2025 but was expected to have a larger role in New York's defense after it traded Dexter Lawrence in April.
Robertson-Harris has 246 tackles and 19 sacks over his previous nine seasons with the Giants, Chicago Bears , Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks .
The Giants waived injured wide receiver Beaux Collins and also signed cornerbacks D.J. James and David Long on Wednesday.
Roy Robertson-Harris Placed on IR; Giants add 2 DBs
The Giants were hoping the timing of Robertson-Harris' injury would yield them enough runway to get him back late in the season. But that dream died Wednesday night when the Giants placed him on season-ending IR, which could end both the 33-year-old's tenure with the Giants and maybe his NFL career.
Robertson-Harris fully recuperating in time to make an impact by December or even January always seemed far-fetched. Giants head coach John Harbaugh saw how Ar'Darius Washington came back from the exact injury in time to play at the end of last season for the Baltimore Ravens .
With their extra roster spots, the Giants signed Long, a 2019 third-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams who won the Super Bowl in LA in 2021. He has primarily been a special-teams player the past two years and spent 2025 on the Carolina Panthers ' practice squad, only playing one game.
James was a sixth-round pick of the Seahawks in 2024 but has played only one NFL game, for the New England Patriots last season.
The Giants Waived Wide Receiver Beaux Collins
Collins played nine games last season but only had two catches for 25 yards before sustaining a concussion and neck injury that ended his season in November.
Collins still has not recuperated from the injury, which is why the Giants waived him with an injury distinction Wednesday. If Collins, 23, clears waivers, he will land on injured reserve, which would end his season.
The Giants now have 13 receivers on the roster, following Collins' release.
