The San Francisco Giants are reshuffling their roster after a six-game losing streak that included a sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays , as president of baseball operations Buster Posey turns to top prospects to address one of the league’s least productive offenses.

San Francisco entered Sunday with a 13-20 record, sitting last in the NL West and ranking at or near the bottom of MLB in multiple categories: 30th in runs (105), home runs (19), and stolen bases (8), along with 29th in both on-base percentage (.289) and OPS (.646).

As a result, Posey is promoting Bryce Eldridge and Jesus Rodriguez from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of a series against the Padres. Eldridge, 21, has recorded a .333 batting average and .445 OBP, ranking fifth and second, respectively, in the Pacific Coast League. He also owns a .963 OPS across 30 games with five home runs, though his 41 strikeouts in 114 at-bats (around a 30% strikeout rate) highlight ongoing contact concerns.

Rodriguez, 24, brings a contrasting profile, hitting .330 with a .400 OBP and .840 OPS in 24 games. He has demonstrated strong plate discipline with 12 walks against 11 strikeouts, along with two home runs, five doubles, and four stolen bases. Defensively, he has appeared at catcher, left field, and second base, offering versatility despite concerns about his blocking and receiving behind the plate.

The moves come as several veteran hitters underperform. Rafael Devers , Matt Chapman , and Willy Adames combined to go 9-for-66 (.136) during the road trip, while Chapman has just one home run on the season. Meanwhile, the Giants’ 69 walks are the fewest in MLB, a sign of their lack of plate discipline.

While Eldridge and Rodriguez are not expected to single-handedly reverse the Giants’ fortunes, Posey’s decision draws a line in the sand for immediate change. With the team already seven games out of a wild-card spot and struggling offensively, these promotions are a deliberate attempt to inject contact ability, on-base skills, and power into a sputtering lineup.
