- Giants should price a Dalvin Tomlinson reunion before deadline

The Giants have another week before the November 10 trade deadline. If they still want interior defensive help, a familiar name is worth a phone call: Dalvin Tomlinson.
This recommendation is not a report that New York and the Chargers are negotiating. ESPN's Bill Barnwell previously suggested Tomlinson as an option, as summarized here . Los Angeles controls whether the veteran is available and what it would accept.

Tomlinson played for the Giants from 2017 through 2020. The Chargers announced his agreement on a one-year deal this offseason after he started all 17 games for Arizona in 2025. His experience gives New York a possible rotational run defender without requiring it to chase a long-term commitment in a trade.
The second part of the calculation is price. A rental on an expiring agreement should not cost a premium pick, particularly when New York could instead stay with its current group. The Giants should ask about a late-round price and the remaining salary before treating the idea as a real upgrade.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Greg Newsome's extension gives New York some cap flexibility ahead of the deadline. The report did not establish a Tomlinson pursuit or a specific amount available for a trade.
Tomlinson dealt with a hamstring issue earlier this season; the Chargers later removed him from their injury report . New York would still need current medical information before agreeing to anything. An old injury update is not a current clearance.
The alternative is to keep the rotation intact and retain the draft capital. That may be preferable if the Chargers value Tomlinson more highly than a short-term role justifies.
The Giants should make the inquiry, not force a reunion. Availability, compensation and the player's current health are all unknown, and those details determine whether the idea improves the roster.
