The decisions that four San Francisco Giants players made during the franchise's Pride Night on June 12 is costing the club more than just its reputation.
Outsports reported on Tuesday that the Giants' attendance at Oracle Park is down between 5% and 7% since four Christian Giants players chose to make a statement about their faith on Pride Night.

What's more, attendance in the Giants' past seven home games is down between 8% and 11% when compared with home stands during the 2025 campaign, which were at a similar time and day of the week.

It is impossible to say whether the Giants' downturn at the turnstiles is a direct byproduct on what happened during Pride Night in June, but it is hard to believe it is just a coincidence.
Four San Francisco players (Sam Hentges, Landon Roupp, JT Brubaker, and Ryan Walker) made alterations to the "Pride" hats (a Giants hat with a rainbow patch attached) the rest of the roster wore.

Hentges wore his regular Giants hat without the rainbow patch, while Roupp, Brubaker, and Walker wore the "Pride" hat, but cited Bible verses next to the rainbow logo.
The Giants have received a ton of criticism for their handling of this situation, with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred calling them out for not making it clear that the players could have opted out of wearing the "Pride" hats if they desired.
Giants President of Baseball Operations, Buster Posey, was also criticized for not saying much about the debacle when asked about it directly.

It appeared as though the situation had more of less blown over. But this report about the Giants' attendance suggests that some fans are still upset about how San Francisco's franchise handled matters.

Ultimately, the Giants still have some of the league's best attendance numbers, despite having a 42-58 record. But the franchise certainly is not winning over any new fans in a city so steeped in pride.
