With starter John Michael Schmitz likely headed to the concussion protocol after getting banged up at Friday's practice and backup center Lucas Patrick dealing with a lingering knee injury, the Giants are reportedly signing free agent center Brenden Jaimes , reports The Athletic's Dan Duggan.
The 27-year-old worked out for Big Blue earlier this week.
Jaimes has appeared in 50 games over five seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Los Angeles Chargers , where he spent four years and made three starts. Last season, the center played in four games (22 offensive snaps) for the New England Patriots while seeing some time on special teams as well.
To make room for Jaimes on the roster, New York waived CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse,who was injured.
Meanwhile, according to head coach John Harbaugh, Schmitz "got his bell rung" and had to leave practice. He was slow to get up after a run play and walked off the field very slowly with a trainer, per Duggan.
