Eagles (2-5) vs Commanders (1-4-1), Sunday 8:20pm
Point spread/ML: Giants -3/-174 Eagles +3/+146
Total: 38.5 points
Analysis: Tale as old as time: first place team on its third quarterback, taking on a last-place team on its fourth QB. My only question is how in the world the Giants are only favored by three points against a team that hasn't won since the Phillies were still a week away from finishing their regular season.
The offense is ravaged by injury, and the defense is deteriorating before our eyes: 90 points and nearly 1,200 yards allowed in the last three games. Gimme Big Blue -3, and even make another bet at -6.5.
Picks: Giants -3
Passing Props (O/U)
-
JJ McCarthy: 214.5 passing yards, 1.5 TD (+174/-240), 0.5 INT (-130/-102), 17.5 completions, 29.5 attempts
-
Joe Milton: 188.5 passing yards, 0.5 TD (-225/+164) 0.5 INT (-162/+122), 17.5 completions, 31.5 attempts
Analysis: Milton is a total wild card. This will be his first NFL start, and he'll battle a strange Giants pass defense: 3rdin yards allowed, yet 30thin sacks per attempt. My theory is that the promotion of Milton to starter is less strategy than it is the fact he can run for his life when he needs to, something Tanner McKee doesn't do nearly as well or readily.
McCarthy had a solid game in his first start for the Giants last week vs Houston. He threw for 252 yards, but six completions accounted for 182 of those yards. In the fourth quarter and OT, he went 7/8, but for just 40 yards. I still think he gets to his number though.
Picks: McCarthy OVER yards, OVER completions
Rushing Props (O/U)
-
Devin Singletary – 57.5 yards, 15.5 attempts
-
Saquon Barkley – 53.5 yards, 12.5 attempts
-
Elijah Mitchell – 24.5 yards
-
Milton – 23.5 yards
-
McCarthy – 17.5 yards
-
Gregory Desrosiers – 10.5 yards
Analysis: The market corrected on Barkley, his attempts O/U is tough to pick, and if he gets double-digit carries, he really only needs to break one or two to get over 53.5 yards. The Giants' run D ranks 26thin yards per game and 27thin yards per carry. He was limited Thursday after not practicing Wednesday, yet has no status on the injury report.
Much like the situation in Philadelphia, Singletary is the last man standing in the Giants' backfield. Cam Skattebo is doubtful, Tyrone Tracy in on IR.
As mentioned, the Eagles D has had moments where you wonder if they're really doing their best. It could be scheme, it could be effort, but it's certainly not talent. But as they say, hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.
Picks: Barkley OVER yards; Singletary OVER yards, OVER attempts
Receiving Props (O/U)
-
Malik Nabers – 72.5 yards, 5.5 receptions
-
Isaiah Likely – 43.5 yards, 4.5 receptions
-
Makai Lemon – 39.5 yards, 4.5 receptions
-
Dallas Goedert – 35.5 yards, 3.5 receptions
-
Darius Cooper – 27.5 yards, 2.5 receptions
-
Malachi Fields – 23.5 yards, 2.5 receptions
-
Marquise Brown – 17.5 yards, 1.5 receptions
-
Singletary – 14.5 yards, 2.5 receptions
-
Darnell Mooney – 12.5 yards, 1.5 receptions
-
Barkley – 9.5 yards, 1.5 receptions
-
Eli Stowers – 5.5 yards, 0.5 receptions
Analysis: Nabers is on a serious heater. Four straight games with at least 6 catches and 111 yards. Likely has had four games this season with at least 6 catches and 66 yards. They like to use Singletary out of the backfield; he has 8/55 on nine targets in the four games he's been active.
It remains to be seen how Milton will play, but Lemon has developed well in his rookie season, with 13/124/1 over his last two games. Goedert has had 4+ catches in 5/6. Stowers opened his account with 3/53 last week vs WSH.
Picks: Nabers OVER yards, OVER receptions, Singletary OVER yards; Lemon OVER yards, OVER receptions
