- Gillon, Rangers roll past Indians in top-10 battle
Itawamba Community College took one on the chin in a top-10 battle Thursday night in Senatobia.
No. 6 Northwest Mississippi pulled away in the third quarter and cruised to a 35-9 win over the No. 8 Indians. With the victory, the Rangers (6-2, 5-0) now sit alone atop the MACCC North Division standings.
Northwest led 21-6 at halftime and then closed the door in the third quarter. Noah Gillon hit Ethan Johnson for a 3-yard touchdown pass, and moments later Jovarious Lundy returned an interception 43 yards to the house for a 28-6 lead.
Gillon, a Tupelo graduate, had a big night. He completed 22 of 30 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns. His first two TDs both came in the second quarter as Northwest began to separate itself.
ICC (6-2, 3-1) was plagued by turnovers, committing three of them. The Indians finished with 273 total yards to Northwest's 365. Itawamba quarterback Brayden Trusty completed 17 of 30 passes for 168 yards and an interception.
ICC returns home next Thursday to face East Mississippi.
