The Vegas Golden Knights are heading to the Stanley Cup Final for the third time in nine seasons , and their general manager has a simple message for the critics: he does not care what you think.
Speaking to NHL.com on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after Vegas clinched their spot in the Final, Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon made it crystal clear that outside opinions carry zero weight inside the organization. "I think we largely ignore it, to be honest," McCrimmon told NHL.com. "It is what it is, and we're not going to be able to change people's minds. I don't think we're going to spend a lot of time trying to or caring about it."
The Golden Knights have faced scrutiny and skepticism throughout their playoff run, with critics questioning various aspects of the team's path to the championship round. McCrimmon, however, brushed off any suggestion that the organization owes anyone an explanation for how they got here. "We are committed to winning and treating our people well," he said. "I don't think we need to apologize or worry about what people on the outside think about."
That kind of mentality has become a hallmark of the Vegas franchise since it entered the league in 2017. The Golden Knights reached the Stanley Cup Final in their very first season as an expansion team, shocking the hockey world and drawing both admiration and resentment along the way. Now, nearly a decade later, the organization continues to operate with the same focused, tunnel-vision mindset that has made them one of the most successful franchises of the modern era.
With a third Cup Final appearance on the line, Vegas has no intention of letting outside narratives become a distraction. McCrimmon and the Golden Knights are locked in and playing for one thing only.
