The Vegas Golden Knights showed this past season that they were true contenders, and they'll be looking to finish the job next season. Unfortunately, some people won't be able to go on the run with them, as contracts and other things get in the way. Pavel Dorofeyev recently getting traded to the New York Rangers was the perfect example of that, and Kelly McCrimmon was honest about why they made the deal .
"From a team standpoint, this is the business of hockey. Pav was making, I think, $1.9 million with us last year. He's now going to be making $11 million a season for seven more years. It's well earned, but it just puts us in a situation where it can't be accommodated here," McCrimmon said.
Now, the hope is that Dorofeyev can find a steady role with the Rangers, while the Golden Knights try to find a way to replace him. It'll most likely be next man up for the team, but that could be enough to keep them competitive for next season.
The Golden Knights now have to focus on trying to re-sign Rasmus Andersson , as he's set to become a free agent on July 1. The two sides apparently have a handshake agreement on a deal, but it's uncertain what the contract will look like, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
"It is unclear what type of long-term contract Andersson may secure with the Golden Knights, but that move is still expected and could get finalized by the end of the month," Pagnotta wrote. "If talks fall apart, though, Andersson will be among the top defenceman available in the open market."
The hope is that everything goes well with negotiations on both sides, because the Golden Knights would not want to be without him.
